Serological investigation on avian mycoplasmosis in laying hen farms in Eastern Algeria

Abstract :

The aim of this study was to estimate the seroprevalence of Mycoplasma gallispeticum (MG) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) infection in twenty-seven laying hen farms across eightprovinces ofEasternAlgeria.All sera samples were examinated by rapid serum plate agglutination test (SPA). Out of the 540 sera samples tested, one hundred ninty-two showed the presence of antibodies against MG, corresponding to an infection rate of 33. 1 %. One hundred were positive for MS, corresponding to an infection rate of 18.5 %. Out of the twenty-seven visited farms, fourteen (51. 9%) were positive for MG, seven (25.9%) were positive for MS and six (22.2%) farms were free of both MG and MS. The results obtained showed that mycoplasma infections are present in our poultry farms.
