Abstract :

Aim : Use of rice water, widely used for its anti-diarrheal properties, as an adjuvant treatment in experimental infection with Eimeria tenella. Materials and methods : 120 broilers divided into 4 groups of 30 subjects each one (G1, G2, G3 and G4). The infected groups : G2, G3 and G4 received by gavage 105 sporulated oocysts / subject. From the 17th day until the 53rd day of age, weight gain, water and feed intake and feed conversion ratio were studied. Lesion score and oocysts output were evaluated after the infection. Results : At the end of the experiment (day 53), among the infected groups, the one treated with rice water (group 4) showed a better weight gain and feed conversion ration (1889.5g, 1750.5g et 1617.3g for groups 4, 2 et 3 respectively). The best lesion score was also recorded for group 4 (0.33±0.58<1±0<1.67±1.53 for groups 4, 2 et 3 respectively). Animals of this same group showed a significant reduction in their oocyst excretion, 7days post-infection (18,94±11,33<37,21±19,10<49,56±24,10 respectively for groups 4, 3 et 2). Conclusion : Rice water when used in combination with anticoccidial drugs can correct the disturbances caused by coccidial infestation and minimize the losses in the affected farms.
