Abstract :

A total of 987 carcasses of sheep (459) and goats (528) of different ages were examined from 1/6/2012 to 1/6/2013 at El-Kharga city (in and out the abattoir). 37 (8.06%) sheep and 29(5.49%) goats were found infected with hydatidosis. Liver and lung were the most infected organ (4.57%, 2.61%, respectively) in sheep but in goats the lung was the most predilection site than liver (3.03%, 2.46% respectively), also the cyst found in both liver and lung in sheep only in percentage of (0.65%) and the under develop cyst found only in kidney of sheep (0.28%). Sheep fell in age category of 3 year and above were more infected (15.29%) compared to 2 to 3 year (5.83%) , 1 to 2 year (2.85%) and below 1 year (0%) old. Likewise, the prevalence in goats was 7.89%, 4.2%, 3% and 0% respectively in the same age groups. Fertility of cyst was highest in sheep than goats (62.16%, 58.62%, respectively). The biochemical analysis done for several parameters (total protein, Glucose, Cholesterol, triglyceride, creatinine , Urea , Uric acid , Calcium and Magnesium ions ) by colorimetric assay kits. The biochemical parameters varies in the measures as for protein, lung cysts in sheep and goats higher value significantly (P<0.01) than liver. While in the liver cyst were found creatinine (P<0.01), calcium ions (P<0.01) and magnesium ions (P<0.05) are statistically increase than of lung, while cholesterol, (p<0.01), triglyceride (P<0.05) were significant increase in liver cyst of sheep only and no significant difference in liver cyst of goats. In compare with previous studies the results reflected some differences for many values, and also among lungs or livers, which may pointed some strain variability in parasite metabolism, growth rate or even strain variation. This data will help in controlling strategies of hydatidosis in small ruminants. Key word: Echinococcus granulosus, Hydatidosis, Hydatid Cyst, Sheep, Goats
