Abstract :

This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of tramadol, nalbuphine and meloxicam as a practical and effective analgesic in albino rats. The efficacy of three doses of each analgesic (5, 15 or 30 mg/kg of tramadol, 20, 50, 100 mg/kg of nalbuphine or 2, 6, 10 mg/kg of meloxicam) were measured. Formalin test was carried out by injection of 0.1 ml of formalin 2.5% s/c at the right or left hind paw. Results were effective at dosages of 15 mg and 30 mg tramadol per kg body weight and 50, 100mg/kg nalbuphine at both formalin phases whereas meloxicam at 6 and 10 mg/kg only on the second formalin phases. But (5 mg/kg of tramadol, 20 mg/kg nalbuphine and 2 mg/kg meloxicam) had no notable analgesic effects. It could be concluded that formalin test is useful to study the analgesic effect of different analgesic agent doses in the rats.
